5 Broadway Shows
You Should Watch Live If You Get The Chance

Why not add a little song and dance to that holiday cheer this season?

For decades, Broadway has captured the ears and hearts of many. Every year, many people fill the seats of theaters from New York to Chicago, to Shanghai to London and all over the world.

There’s just something about seeing a musical performance live. All of the vibrant and bursting colors of set designs and costumes coupled with the actors’ liveliness and energy makes it a fun experience for everyone. While tickets can be expensive, Christmas is the best time to treat yourself and a loved one to some Broadway entertainment.

Here is our list of five Broadway shows you should try and catch live this time of the year while you still have a chance.

Les Misérables

Do you hear the people sing? Originally a novel by French author Victor Hugo and turned into a movie starring Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Eddie Redmayne, and Amanda Seyfried, the stage version of Les Misérables has been on Broadway internationally since the 1980s. A classic tale of revenge, redemption and love—this one will make you cry, but will also inspire you.

The Book of Mormon

From Trey Stone and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park, comes this hilarious religious satire about two Mormon missionaries who are sent to a village in Uganda to connect with the locals who are being threatened by a warlord. The premise itself sounds serious, but it’s anything but. If dramatic musicals aren’t your cup of tea and you don’t mind offensive humor, then come on over and open The Book of Mormon.

Spring Awakening

Originally a book and German play by Frank Wedekind, Spring Awakening was created for the Broadway stage in 2006 (the original cast stars Glee’s Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff and Pitch Perfect’s Skylar Astin) and was revived again this year. This rock musical portrays teenage angst and the ups and downs of discovering sexuality as an adolescent. For everyone and anyone who remembers what it was like to be a rebellious teenager, this one’s for you.

Wicked

Since its debut on stage in 2003, this musical that tells the story of the witches from the Land of Oz (originally starring Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Idina Menzel as Elphaba) has become one of the most popular shows of the current era. Take a trip to the Land of Oz and watch as these two witches defy gravity.

The Lion King

The animated film is a classic and so is the Broadway version. One of the longest running Disney musicals, chances are this one will still be around for years to come. With songs from the original soundtrack, it’ll be hard for you not to sing along. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you’re still bound to enjoy this. And believe me, you’ll want an aisle seat close to the stage for this one.
